FAQ's
These are some of the most frequent asked questions.
1) Who needs to take the AMC CAT MCQ examination?
All International Medical Graduates who follow the Standard Pathway to practice medicine in Australia.
2) Do Australians have to take the AMC CAT MCQ examination?
No, they do not have to take this exam. Australians do not take any standardized test in medical school. They have to pass exams made by their own universities but never face a national standardized test such as AMC MCQ. This is one of the reasons their degree is not recognized outside of Australia.
3) How much time should I study for this exam?
The short answer is “as much as you need” until you get 80-90% on the mocks exams. Generally speaking, this takes an average of 6 months to finish, study and review entirely a question bank.
4) What is the list of topics (syllabus) covered by AMC MCQ
The Australian Medical Council has no information about the list of topics reviewed in the AMC exam. In their booklet called ” Multiple Choice Question Examination Specifications,” you will find what is available.
The vast majority of the students use the PLAB test blueprint (UK equivalent) as a reference for the syllabus.
5) What is the minimum passing score?
The minimum passing score corresponds to the 50% of the total value of points the exam is worth. This cut-off value is influenced by Gaussian distribution based on the results from test-takers all over the world who took the exam in the same period.
6) If I fail, can I take the exam again?
Yes, you can. There is no limit number of attempts at the moment (2022).
7) Which MQB membership is the most time/costly efficient?
If you are a beginner, we recommend a 6 month or 1-year membership. We do offer a 1-month membership for those students who have already prepared for this exam and need mock exam practice. If you are a beginner you need at least 6 months of studying. The reality is, this question bank is vast and comprehensive you will not be able to finish it and absorb everything in only 1 month.
8) Does Melbourne-Q Bank provides Scholarships?
Yes, we do. These scholarships cover 80%, 50%, and 20% of the MQB membership total cost. Must be noticed, we have a limited number of scholarships per country/per year. Applications must be summited to our email and should include a cover letter and CV. Only outstanding candidates will be considered.
9) What are the MQB Recall-inspired questions?
Our team of experts reviews the latest recalls and looks at every angle the question could have been formulated for. Then, we make the recall-inspired questions targeting the teaching points that recall is aiming for and we add the latest medical evidence in the explanation.
10) Is the MQB membership transferable?
No, is not. However, if you are not using the membership you can let somebody use your user and password. The second IP/computer will require permission, therefore, let our IT team know so they can make the arrangement for you. Must be noticed you will no longer be able to access using your old IP/computer.
11) is the MQB membership refundable?
No, is not. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer this at this stage. When you sign for the membership you agree that is not refundable.
